CAN WOOL SAVE THE WORLD? || EWE UNIVERSITY
Happy New Year! I hope you're having a fabulous 2022. In today's video I talk about some innovative, quirky, and not so well-known applications of sheep's wool. Some of these industrial uses of wool might surprise you but also warm your heart. Wool's versatility and eco-friendly characteristics make it perfect for saving the Earth and its people.

Hello! I am a hysterical and paranoid fiber artist. I have had a moth infestation that was a pain to get rid of and at the time I was working for a famous fiber artist and was scared I would give them to her. I don’t even know where my moths were feeding I just saw them flying around. Thankfully am moth free now but the paranoia has only gotten worse. I am at a fiber artist residency weaving with wool currently and found a moth in my apartment. This is how I stumbled upon your video. I am truly not sure what to do with myself.

My husband bought an Autonomous Ergo Pro when everybody was working from home during that whole debacle, as he was now spending over 8 hours a day in his professional work as a video specialist and graphic designer. I, too, began spending more time at my computer and my old $50 Office Depot chair was causing leg pain and swelling in my feet. I resisted spending so much on a chair, but finally the pain was too much. I tried his chair for a few days and was astonished at the difference! It just so happened that Autonomous had just released a new color for the Ergo Pro: Evergreen -- which, despite its name, is actually more of a spring green. A happy, bright, spring green! I ordered it, and have been utterly thrilled with it ever since. It has all the adjustability I want, with the firmness that supports without being too hard or too squishy. And the COLOR! 😃 Just seeing it makes me happy. Not only is it great for sitting at my computer, it's the only chair I use for long hours of knitting. The arms adjust up and down, so I can rest my elbows or have them free. If I were to get another one for my sewing table, I could leave off the arms altogether. Highly, highly recommended if you have the budget for it. (And ergonomic testing has shown it to be better than the Aeron, at a fraction of the cost.)

Thank you for such a thorough and informative video. I live in NYC, have an extremely large wardrobe that takes up an entire room on clothing racks and every once in a while I think about moths and get freaked out. 90% of my clothes are polyester (all Japanese garments). I have very little wool and no cashmere. After watching your video, I will make sure I vacuum that room more often and check those wool pieces. I will probably order the clothing moth traps out of curiosity. Thanks again!!

Hey there, I liked the video! It's just... I'm sorry...I'd like to state my current situation to refute one thing: I'm here to tell you as someone who is currently dealing with a minor infestation. They DEFINITELY EAT COTTON AND whatever else they find available that they like. This is ESPECIALLY TRUE when you have very little to no items in wool, silk, or cashmere. Its all and / or mainly what they have to eat and BELIEVE ME THEY DO. A lot of items are partially worn and 100% cotton or blend with polyester. I know this to be true because I have found them of such clothing, pupas, and females. I catch some males in my traps (hopefully all of them). But unfortunately, they eat what they can. Several items that have been stored away suddenly have tiny holes in the middle or side/arm, seams bitten through in places, stands missing to where little pieces come off.... I just don't know where they are hiding... I'd like to find some of those parasitic wasps that inject themselves into the eggs

Fabulous informative video! I really appreciate your well researched, clearly articulated presentations. I have used Berroco 50/50 Alpaca/wool blend in a 4 weight for the Lana Grossa 14 poncho/pullover and am just finishing the Euler Cardigan in the same brand, blend and weight. It is lovely to work with - I am a novice knitter so this point is important to me. I love Berroco's heather mixes. The multiple colours add such dimension to the finished product. Thank you Kristine. I have some 50-year-old linen and wool hangings embroidered with wool and silk, plus velvet applique and beads that I am donating to several museums. However, they can't take them for another 4-5 months. They are wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and are being stored in cardboard boxes in my bedroom. Most are about 7 x9 feet, so they are hard to "move around" and even to inspect which everyone says I should do. (I am 83 years old so moving anything is difficult.) I had one hanging dry-cleaned, but it puckered some of the appliques and either stained or brought out a stain on a piece of velvet), so I am loath to do more dry-cleaning. If I use the dry ice method that you suggested, will the dry ice hurt the fabric? Since they will need to be folded or rolled to fit into a 30-gallon bag, will the dry ice fumes get to all the fabric? Or do you have any other suggestions? I am panicking since I have been entrusted with these beautiful works of art and don't want them ruined before they can find proper homes. I would greatly appreciate any assistance ASAP.

Hi Kristine. This is the first video of yours that I have seen. I watched because I love 9” circular needles. I like the chiagoo and hiyahiya the best. One thing you didn’t mention about your testing was how the number of stitches worked on the 10” needles. I use 64 stitches for my socks. The 10” needles are too long for the number of stitches. The stitches are stretched too far apart and are difficult to knit. The kollage needles fought me every step. They wanted to be straight not curved. My hands have never hurt while knitting but with the needles advertised to not hurt while using, my hands were tired and hurt. Thanks for an interesting video.

I did love the idea of the Ankerworks stitch and row counter. Other's mileage might differ. I was knitting at my desk , carpeted floor , it fell off the edge and has cracked and not once but broke twice. It was more brittle than I imagine it would be, was able to save it both times with super glue ( was saying some bad words the second time it happened) :-/ Still think it is a fantastic idea but perhaps it becomes brittle with age ??

I was going to buy a yarn shop-but they had moths in the yarn on the shelves. I know you say it’s okay to set clean wool out, like at a yarn shop, but it’s not. You could see moths on the walls that were shaded by the shelves. As a customer, several times an employee would wind a skein that would explode-they would quickly get a fresh skein and act like they weren’t surprised.
